Restio and Tolbos are two newly built Mountain Retreats, each designed from the ground up to make the most of their extraordinary setting. Positioned 800 metres apart on north-facing slopes, both homes offer total privacy and uninterrupted views of the Anysberge and Matroosberg, a panorama that greets you from the moment you wake up.

Each retreat is fully self-catering and comfortably sleeps four guests across two bedrooms, fitted with either two king beds or one king and two singles. Both bedrooms have their own en-suite bathroom, complete with a full bath, toilet, and the option of an indoor or outdoor shower, the latter offering an unmatched way to start a Karoo morning.

The living spaces have been designed with hosting in mind, flowing easily between indoors and out. A fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove and hob handles everything from a quiet breakfast to a long dinner, while the outdoor braai area is made for evenings under an open sky. When the stars come out, the wood-fired hot tub comes into its own, one of those simple pleasures that guests tend to remember long after they leave.

Practicalities have been carefully considered too. Both retreats run entirely off the grid on solar power, with a gas geyser for hot water and purified borehole water throughout. Wi-Fi and a TV are available for those who want them, though the Karoo has a way of making screens feel unnecessary.
